Podere dell'Orto is a restored stone farm hamlet on a 400-hectare organic estate between Greve and Panzano in Chianti, set beside the slow-moving Greve River.
With nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms for up to 16 guests, this villa with private pool in Tuscany is made for extended families and gangs of friends who want to share long days together yet still have a door of their own to close.
The property is split into two independent buildings, the old barn (Fienile) and the former sharecroppers' farmhouse (Erbavoglio), each divided into two homes with separate entrances.
Erbavoglio has a bright kitchen opening onto a veranda and a sitting room with a stone fireplace, while its twin unit adds a billiard room and a compact kitchenette.
In the Fienile, arched glass doors lead into a lofty lounge with Tuscan furniture and a dining room facing the garden; the second Fienile unit has a marble fireplace and velvet sofas. Most bedrooms come with their own bathroom, and king-size beds can be split into twins on request.
Air conditioning runs through the bedrooms and shared rooms, and there is Wi-Fi and satellite TV.
Outside, a wide lawn ringed by apple, poplar, bay, holm oak and linden trees leads to a 12 x 4 metre pool with a sun deck. A covered table for 22 makes large dinners outdoors easy, and a private chef or cooking classes can be arranged on request.
The estate is a working organic farm of vineyards, olive groves, woods and streams, with a wine cellar in use since 1404 and a historic villa once owned by the Gherardini family. The farmhouses sit on the Montagliari plain along a walking route popular with hikers, roughly midway between Florence and Siena.
