Villa il Borgo

Villa il Borgo is a stone-built villa near Bucine, between Arezzo and Siena in Tuscany, sitting above a valley of olive groves and hazelnut orchards. With nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms for up to 20 guests, it is a villa for large groups in Tuscany that still feels like a family home.

Built in the traditional Tuscan manner, the complex is arranged like a small old hamlet, with panoramic corners, unexpected passageways and thick walls that give a reassuring sense of shelter.

Inside, original terracotta floors, beamed ceilings, a large fireplace and antique furniture sit alongside modern design pieces. The ground floor has the main hall with fireplace and a central arch, a dining room for 20 and a fully equipped kitchen; a lounge with fireplace and TV adds another place to gather.

On the mezzanine are a laundry and two double bedrooms, one with its own door to the outside. The first floor holds five more bedrooms, two of them suites with canopy beds and an extra bed, and two with private access to the garden. An annex next door has two further double bedrooms.

Every bedroom has its own shower room and satellite TV, several doubles can be split into twins, and floor heating and cooling can be set level by level.

A tended garden of herbs and flowers spreads towards the woods. The pool measures 6 by 12 metres, and beside it a gazebo with outdoor sofas sits next to a sail-shaded dining table, with a barbecue and wood oven to hand.

The cool patio is made for sunset drinks, and the annex houses a sauna with wide windows over the landscape.
