Villa il Castello di Lorenzo

Villa il Castello di Lorenzo is a carefully restored castle near Suvereto, in the province of Livorno in Tuscany, with origins documented back to 1100.

Seven en-suite bedrooms and eight bathrooms sleep up to 14 guests, and with around 700 square metres of living space, a walled garden and sea views, it is a rare castle villa with a pool in Tuscany for families and groups seeking real privacy.

The bedrooms all have extra-large beds: five doubles and two twins, each with HD smart TV and air conditioning. Bathrooms have generous multi-function showers, and one suite has a whirlpool bath.

The spacious kitchen is ready for serious cooking, with induction and gas hobs, two multi-function ovens, a dedicated pizza oven, a microwave, two dishwashers, two fridges, a freezer and an espresso machine. Wi-fi covers the whole property, and there is a wood-burning fireplace for cooler evenings.

The 4,000-square-metre garden is enclosed by the castle's medieval walls, complete with original arrow slits and a lit walkway along the top. There are quiet reading corners, a large dining table near the kitchen, a second table by the walls next to a gas barbecue, and sofa areas for breakfast and aperitivo.

The long pool with its waterfall is surrounded by a wooden deck with sunbeds and shaded by a large oak, and a second deck holds a six-person whirlpool. On summer nights, a cinema under the stars with a large screen and laser projector lets you stream films, sport or concerts.

From the pool and garden the view reaches across the Maremma countryside to the Tuscan archipelago, Elba, the Gulf of Baratti and Corsica.

Beyond the walls, an olive grove of old native trees runs to the edge of the Montioni park, which surrounds much of the estate. The last 2 km of the approach is an unpaved road through the park.

Suvereto town is about 10 km away, Venturina 20 minutes, Piombino and its ferries to Elba 30 minutes, and the beaches of Baratti and Sterpaia around half an hour. Bolgheri, Campiglia Marittima, Massa Marittima and Castagneto Carducci are within similar reach; Pisa is about an hour away, Florence an hour and a half.
