Villa Pozzo della Volpe

Villa Pozzo della Volpe is a stone farmhouse in Greve in Chianti, set on the edge of the medieval hamlet of Volpaia in the heart of Tuscany.

Sleeping up to 11 guests in six bedrooms with five bathrooms, split between the main house and a small guest house, it is a relaxed choice for families or friends looking for a villa with private pool in Chianti where the car can stay parked for most of the holiday.

The interiors have been restored with traditional materials and a light touch. On the ground floor a sitting room with fireplace opens onto the garden and a large covered patio, alongside a dining room, a kitchen that also leads outside, a single bedroom and a shower room.

Upstairs are the master bedroom with en-suite bathtub, a twin with its own bathroom, a second twin, a spacious twin with a door straight onto the garden, and a further bathroom with bath and separate shower. The guest house holds a double bedroom with en-suite bathtub.

Practical touches include TV, DVD player, stereo, mosquito nets, dishwasher and washing machine, and housekeeping comes four hours a day, five days a week.

Although only 300 metres from the village, the house sits in a private, secluded corner of the estate with open views over the countryside, best enjoyed from the fenced 9 x 5 metre pool, open from May to September.

A shaded pergola in the garden is a favourite spot for long lunches, and a cook can be arranged for lunch or dinner.

Volpaia is a fortified village dating from the twelfth century, carefully restored over the past fifty years. Within its old walls and towers the Castello di Volpaia estate produces Chianti Classico, extra virgin olive oil and fine vinegars.

A short stroll brings you to a gourmet osteria praised by many guides, a more casual restaurant, a bakery, cooking classes and wine tastings, and a complimentary wine tour can be arranged. Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo and the other Chianti villages are all a short drive away.
