The Castle has been the residence of many illustrious Florentine families throughout the centuries, such as Scolari, the family of the famous general Pippo Spano, and the Pitti, before becoming the property of the Medici family.
By the mid-1500s, the current main building of Tizzano was rebuilt along the ruins of the ancient castle. In 1585, it was donated by the Grand Duke Francesco de Medici to the well-known sculptor Giambologna, and on his death passed to his pupil Pietro Tacca.
The accommodation outside the castle remained unchanged until 1793. During the Napoleonic era, the castle was bought by Prince Talleyrand, until the second half of the 1800s when it was purchased by Count Roberto Pandolfini and his wife Beatrice dei Principi Corsini.
Since then, the Villa has been still owned by the Counts Pandolfini.
