Villa del Falco is a late-19th-century hilltop villa, lovingly restored, looking out over Lake Chiusi in the Castiglione del Lago area of Umbria. Seven bedrooms and six bathrooms sleep up to 16 guests, making it a villa for 16 guests in Umbria that works well for large families and groups; pets are welcome too.
The house is thoughtfully furnished and fully equipped, with Wi-Fi, TV, fans and a sauna, and towels and bed linen are provided. A high chair is available for younger guests.
On request the owner can cook traditional Tuscan meals, and you can buy produce from the vegetable garden, which the owner tends without any chemicals.
A fenced garden shaded by mature trees surrounds the villa. In a sunny, panoramic spot sits the pool, set up with sun loungers, a table, chairs and umbrellas. Below the hill runs the railway line linking Chiusi with central Italy.
The area is rich in Etruscan history. Chiusi, founded by the Etruscans, stands on a volcanic outcrop covered in olive groves and dotted with tombs, many of which are open to visitors. Castiglione del Lago, the largest town on Lake Trasimeno and home to cultural events and festivals, is 13 km away.
A few hundred metres from the villa, the Sentiero della Bonifica walking and cycling path follows the Canale Maestro della Chiana between Arezzo and Chiusi, while the Montepulciano nature reserve, a favourite with birdwatchers, is ten minutes away.
